Benda, Evelyn O.
Evelyn O. Benda, 85, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. March 26 at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn was born Feb. 1, 1928, near West Branch, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Lumpa) Vikel. She was a graduate of West Branch High School. She grew up on the family farm south of West Branch. On Feb. 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles “Rusty” Benda in Iowa City. They continued to live with her parents and care for them until their death.
She enjoyed gardening, caring for the animals on the farm, baking, shopping, visiting and was always willing to help others.
She is survived by two children, Joe Benda of West Liberty and Charlene (Terry) Hamer of West Branch; four grandchildren, Jenna, Charlie and Jill Hamer and Olivia Benda; a great-grandson, Hunter Hamer; and a sister, Doris (George) Heick of West Branch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and a brother, Earl Vikel.
