Jan. 7, 2017 10:53 am
CEDAR RAPIDS — Bellevue recovered from an early 12-point deficit. Emphatically.
Rebecca Schroeder and Emma Kelchen both recorded double-doubles, and the Class 2A 14th-ranked Comets zoomed past Camanche, 46-30, in a River Valley Conference encounter as part of Rivalry Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Bellevue (9-3 overall, 7-3 RVC) held Camanche (9-5, 6-5) to 17-percent shooting (10 of 60) and snapped the Indians' four-game winning streak.
Camanche scored the first 10 points and built a 14-2 lead before Bellevue inched back into it. The Comets held the Indians without a field goal for 10 minutes, and got within 19-18 on Schroeder's two free throws with 9 seconds left in the half.
Lindsey Banowetz opened the second half with a basket to give Bellevue its first lead, then a 7-0 run put the Comets in front for good, 27-22. It was 37-30 before Bellevue closed with the final nine points.
Camryn Reeg led the Comets with 14 points. Kelchen added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Schroeder posted 11 points and 13 boards.
Courtney Schnoor paced Camanche with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but shot 4-of-22 from the field.
