Colony, Russell Lynn 'Bud'
Russell Lynn “Bud” Colony, 92 of rural Tiffin died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Atrium Village in Hills. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with Reverend Beverly Marshall-Goodell and Reverend Marlene Janssen officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Bud's memory to Tiffin First Responders/Fire Department or Grace United Methodist Church. Russell Lynn “Bud” Colony was born Jan. 15, 1917, the son of Maude Russell and Lynn Paul Colony in Clear Creek Township, of Johnson County. He married Veva V. Shaffer, December 27, 1938 in her parents' home near Sharon Center. They lived on their farm in Clear Creek Township, where Russell was a lifelong farmer, beginning with dairy cattle and later, in the early 1950s, switched to Hereford cattle.
Russell and Veva found great joy in working with the youth of the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin during the 1940s and early 1950s. Later, when his children were involved with 4-H, he became a leader of the Victory 4-H Club. He was also President of the Clear Creek Country School Board during the time of the school consolidation. He will be remembered by family and friends for his love of stories and for his hearty laugh.
Russell is survived by a daughter, Theola (John) Rarick of North Liberty; son, Lynn Russell (Connie) Colony of Tiffin; grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Colony, Clint Powell (Rosemarie) Rarick, Chad Russell (Heidi) Colony, Kathryn Kay (Myron) Dorsey; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Vivien Colony, Kylie Lynn Colony, Cole Chad Colony, Dean Powell Dorsey; brother, Jerry (Marianne) Colony; special cousin, Shirley Colony; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Veva; his mother, Maude Russell Colony; father Lynn Paul Colony and sister, Helen Vesely.
