Husmann, Delbert C.
Delbert C. Husmann, 84, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.
Surviving are his wife, Janaan; three children, Pam Mott, Mount Vernon, Trish (Jim) Janssen, Scotch Grove, and Colin Husmann, Monticello; six grandchildren, Andrea (Brent) Zastrow, Janda (Matt) Wilden, Sean (Michelle) Janssen, Stacy (Chad) Thies, Vaughn (Rhonda Marty) Husmann and Ryan (Amanda) Husmann; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexa and Brittany Zastrow, Brynn and Lucas Wilden, Chance Janssen, Colten, Caden and Courtney Thies, Taylor Kremer, Skyleigh, Kyler, Alyvia and Kason Husmann; a sister, Claretta (Greg) Haag, New Orleans; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray (Janis) Meyer, DeWitt, Vern Meiser, Reno, Nev., and Lorraine Husmann, Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; his son-in-law, Dave Mott; his great-granddaughter, Vanessa Elizabeth Husmann; a brother, Irvin; and two sisters, Alberta Meiser and Alfrieda (Bill) Evans.
Delbert Colin Husmann was born May 3, 1926, at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Benhart and Anna (Leesekamp) Husmann. He received his education in the Monticello Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1945. Delbert married Janaan Meier on Nov. 22, 1949, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.
Delbert was a milk hauler for over 40 years. He started with a can route at Farmers Mutual Creamery in Monticello and hauling barrel cheese to Dodgeville, Wis. He worked for a brief time at the Iowa Men's Reformatory in Anamosa. Delbert and Janaan also operated the Monticello Motel for 13 years. He retired from his bulk milk route in 1992 and they sold the motel in 1993.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
