Robert D. Bonesteel, 81, of Toddville, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Nathan Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Private inurnment with military rites will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sons, Douglas (Kris) Bonesteel of Des Moines and Darrell (Carrie) Bonesteel of Marion; grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Clifton, Jacob (Tiffanie) Bonesteel, Zackary Jensen, Ryan Jensen, Joshua Jensen, Dakota Elmore, Ashley Peyton, Kristopher Peyton and Jessi Peyton; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin, Brayden, Baylee, Annabelle, David, Jaiden and Lillian, Peyton, Kristian and Mason; and siblings, Oliver Bonesteel of Pennsylvania, Marjorie Nearmyer of Cedar Rapids and Daisy Roehr of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ila Lambert, Ruth Olson, John Bonesteel and Mary Jean Parizek.
Robert Dale Bonesteel was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Shellsburg, Iowa, the son of Vesta and Katie (Weisert) Bonesteel. Bob served in the U.S. Army for one enlistment. On Feb. 4, 1961, he married Marilyn Danner in Anamosa. Bob worked as a lab technician at Rockwell-Collins for many years. He also worked in security at all Iowa Hawkeye home games and was an avid fan.
He enjoyed vacationing with his family, was a 20-year leader of Boy Scout Troop 158, refurbishing old cars, fishing and hunting.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Memorial donations may be given in his name to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
