Daniel Allan Lehn, 58, of North Liberty, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Funeral services: 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Coe College at a later date.
Daniel was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of 10, Dan and his family moved to Fairfield, Conn., where he graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School. Dan obtained a B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College. Dan became a professor of psychology at Coe College in 1993 and recently served as Coe's associate dean of faculty.
Dan was best known as a people person. He was a beloved teacher and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. Dan was known to take an interest in those around him, especially his students. Dan was kindhearted, had a quick wit, and loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. Dan loved others in a way that was truly remarkable for those who knew him. He was an excellent cook and loved to exercise, especially cycling. Dan died doing an activity he loved.
Dan is survived by his wife, Lauri; children, Jake (Tonya) Vitense and Kelsey Vitense; and was the super proud grandfather to Henry Vitense. Dan also is survived by his mother, Barbara Lehn; and his five brothers, Stephan (Pam) Lehn, David (Jane) Lehn, Gregory (Laurie) Lehn, Randolph (Beth) Lehn and Matthew Lehn.
