Ronald John Etscheidt was born April 9, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Lester and Virginia Stransky Etscheidt. He received his early education at St. Patrick Catholic School in Cedar Rapids and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1968. Ron continued his education at Kirkwood Community College and Iowa State University. He worked at a small electrical equipment company, Deeco, prior to a 37-year career as an electrical engineer at Square D, where he was proud to have his name on numerous patents for company products.
Ron married Barbara Higbee on Nov. 27, 1971, in Shorewood, Wis. The couple had made Anamosa their home since 1974.
In their spare time, the couple operated Monroe House Antiques for many years. Ron enjoyed wood-working and repairing the antique pieces they bought and sold. He also loved to fish, especially on the trout streams in northeast Iowa and on fly-in trips in Canada. In recent years, he spent time traveling to area flea markets, cutting fire wood, attending his grandchildren's activities and playing Frisbee with his dog, Axel. Ron was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
