Hayes, Florence June
Florence June Hayes, 65, of Belle Plaine, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hrabak Funeral Home by Pastor Charles Johnson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Florence was born July 24, 1947, in Oskaloosa, to Ernest and Wilma Vinall Wilson. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1965 and then went to beauty school in Cedar Rapids. In 1968, she married John Hayes. This union lasted 42 years until his death in 2010.
She had worked for the Belle Plaine Community Schools for around 30 years and also did other jobs in the community. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Her hobbies included quilting, playing cards, “Book Club” with her dear friends, gardening, cooking, and her grandchildren. She was a community volunteer and spent time enjoying the company of her mother. She was devoted to her dog and companion, Zoey.
Her life was full of fun and friends. She was so loved and will be forever missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Johnette Hayes (Jeff Stephenson) of Belle Plaine and Alison (Scott) Foughty of Des Moines; her mother, Wilma Wilson of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Madison, Payton and Spencer Yilek, Davis and Erika Foughty; brother, Tom (Diane) Wilson of Marengo, and their daughter, Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her father, Ernest Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine Parks and Recreation, the Belle Plaine football cheer squad, or the Iowa Donor Network.
