Robert Delmer King, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call upon the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the
Cedar Memorial Park
Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alice; children, Linda and Allan; grandchildren, Beth (Joe), Nathan (Amber) and Justin; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Shea, Piper, Mack, Alison and Madeline; and brother, Warren (Joyce).
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, daughter in-law and grandson.
Bob was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Vivian, S.D., the son of Delmer and Ione (Dunlap) King. He served in the Navy as a radio
operator in World War II and the Korean War. On Sept. 6, 1947, he married Alice Marjory Schervem and after a brief residence in Vivian, they relocated to Cedar Rapids where he worked as an electrician for Allis Chalmers/Harnischfeger for 34 years.
After retirement, he was active in many organizations. He was the third vice president of UAW Local 1316 Region 4 Retirees and UAW CAP, member of the Masonic Lodge No. 6 and the Scottish Rite Temple and past president of Cedar Rapids High Twelve Club No. 7, past president of Mended Hearts, longtime member of the Linn County Democratic Central Committee and member of the Linn County Task Force-Heritage Area
Agency on Aging.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mended Hearts Organization at St. Luke's or The Shriners Hospital for Children.
