Youngberg, Alvin J.
Alvin J. Youngberg, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013. Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Services by the Rev. Craig Brown. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel and after 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Faith of 56 years; three sons, Bryan (Alison) of Casper, Wyo., Scott (Mary Jo) of Cedar Rapids and Kirk (Bridgette) of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey (Stephen) Lynch, Andy, Heather, Justin, Mandi, Elizabeth and Zach Youngberg; three great-grandsons; a brother, Merton (Jeanne) Youngberg of Manistee, Mich.; and sister-in-law, Lucille Youngberg of Waseca, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Karl.
Al was born Aug. 26, 1937, on the family farm in Waseca County, Minn., to Alfred and Jeanette Youngberg. He attended country school and graduated from New Richland High School in 1955. He married Faith Strenge in New Richland, Minn. on Sept. 8, 1957. Al worked for Wilson and Company as a livestock buyer in Minnesota, Missouri and Iowa for over 35 years.
Al was a starter at Twin Pines Golf Course for a number of years and was an avid golfer himself with one hole-in-one to his credit. He had many hobbies including fishing, woodworking, gardening and helping out around the neighborhood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
