R.J. STEPHAN

R.J. Stephan, 87, died Nov. 15, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. He was born in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 19, 1931, to Joseph and Mildred (Babbitt) Stephan.
R.J. attended Notre Dame University before enlisting in the Air Force. He was stationed at Bentwaters Air Force Base outside of London, England. He served four
years as a radar mechanic and pitched for the Air Force baseball team. Upon his return, he met and married the love of his life, Pat Yount, and began working at Iowa Midland Supply, later purchasing the business. He retired in 2000 and spent his time traveling, fishing and attending his grandkids' sporting events.
R.J. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat; children, Craig (Sheila), Connie (Dave) Kielty, Brian (Carrie) and Laurie (Mike) Collins; grandchildren, David (Katie), Cameron (Kerri), Robbie (Laura), Matthew (Sarah), Nicholas, Alison (Joe), Van, Louis and Courtney; and great-grandchildren, Ben, Cora, Joey and Ava. R.J. was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sheryl.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a vigil at 4 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids. A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 720 29th St. SE, Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to All Saints Catholic Church or the Mercy Hospital Foundation in R.J.'s name.
