Higbee, George
George Higbee, 89, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Silvercrest of Anamosa. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie of Burr Ridge, Ill.; three children, Jeanne (Tom) Higbee-Couillard of Bloomington, Minn., Barbara (Ron) Etscheidt of Anamosa and John (Barb) Higbee of Carmarillo, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Erin (Lonnie) Humpal, Chris and Alison Etscheidt, Bryan and Ellyn Couillard, Kenny Lammers and Jenni Higbee; two great-grandchildren, Grahm and Norah Humpal; and sister-in-law, Carol Higbee of Waverly, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charlotte, on Oct. 10, 2001; and a brother, James Higbee.
George Mark Higbee was born May 2, 1921, in Horicon, Wis., the son of Earl and Clara (Erdman) Higbee. As a young man George enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. After his enlistment George went on to receive his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On July 21, 1945, George and Charlotte Bachmann were united in marriage. George spent the majority of his professional career as an attorney for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance. He later married Marjorie Robertson on Oct. 11, 2003. George enjoyed reading, traveling and sports and it didn't matter which one, he was a fan of all of them. George was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by those closest to him.
