Barry Dennis Schenkelberg, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, from a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Alison; his parents; his children, Todd, Paul, Shaun, Heidi, Eric and Meagan; and his siblings, Marlene, Karen, Robert, Carrie and Patrick.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Barry was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Clayton and Alithea. He married Alison Milligan McGarvey on Oct. 27, 1979, in Orlando, Fla. Barry retired from the United States Navy in 1982 as chief electronics technician and later was employed at Duane Arnold Energy Center. He was a member of St. Pius X. He volunteered at the church and Mercy Medical Center.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
