Serbousek, Richard 'Dick' David
Richard “Dick” David Serbousek, 70, of Swisher, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Brian McNeal presiding. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Richard was born May 25, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Wesley and Rose (Chytry) Serbousek. He married Lilyan Melsha on Aug. 1, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. Dick served in the U.S. Army and Reserves and was discharged on Nov. 30, 1964. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion from 1974 until present. Dick was the King of Swisher in 2003 for the Swisher Centennial, as well as earning the Outstanding Newspaper Boy Award as a youngster. Dick worked for Allis Chalmers
and later Highway Equipment until his retirement. Among the things that Dick enjoyed were racing his stock cars, fishing, going to the cabin, socializing with friends, as well as spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lilyan; son, Steven (Deb) of Iron River, Wis.; a daughter, Stacy (Lonnie) Christner of Ely; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Mike) Gunderson, Michael Serbousek, Holli Christner, Austin Shebetka, Jordan Shebetka and Weston Christner; and two great-grandchildren, Lilyann and Nicklas Gunderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James Serbousek.
A memorial fund has been established in Dick's name.
