Janet A. Bennett, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at Heritage Specialty Care, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Philip Thompson. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Dianne (Larry) Floyd, William R. Bennett, Laura Bennett, John L. (Cheri) Bennett and Jennifer Woods; grandchildren, John W. (Amanda) O'Neal, Carly Gilmore, Khary Floyd, Michael Floyd, Lawrence Floyd and Aaliyah Floyd, Anna Katherine, Caroline and William J. Bennett, and Jackson Woods; four great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Donovan; brothers-in-law Richard (Patricia) Bennett and James (Charlesy) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Grace (Paul) Kane, Lela (Charles) McCormick, Audrey McGuire and Ruth Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Janet Ann Dunn was born March 5, 1935, in Bernard, Iowa, to William and Loretta (Fitzpatrick) Dunn. She attended Mount Mercy College, first boarding as a high school student, and then earning her associate's degree in teaching. She married William C. Bennett on June 25, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church in Fillmore, Iowa. Janet worked for many years as a teacher at the local Cedar Rapids Catholic schools, as well as raising her children. Most recently, she worked for Frank N. Magid Associates Inc. as an interviewer, retiring after over 20 years. Janet was a devout Catholic, attending St. Pius X Catholic Church and St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
She enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Chicago Bears football team, gardening and bowling. She was a member of SaPaDaPaSo and the Cedar Rapids Firefighters Wives Auxiliary.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William C.; his parents, William E. and Edna Bennett; infant children, Mary Ann, Michael, Charles and Thomas; siblings, William F., Elizabeth, Louis and Charlie; sister-in-law, Norma; and brothers-in-law, Ray Donovan, Ronald Bennett and Wesley McGuire.
A memorial fund has been established in Janet's name.
