Shirley Hipple Shanahan, 89, of Cedar
Rapids, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Mercy
Medical Center. Private family services will be at Teahen Funeral Home, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus of St. Patrick Catholic
Church. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Robinn Solner, Mindy (Gary) Coleman and Erin (Dan) Kauffman; son, Sean Shanahan; five grandchildren, Kristen Solner, Emily (Ben) McCall, Neal (Stacy) Coleman and Reid and Camryn Kauffman; and one great-grandchild, Quinn McCall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (1990); sisters, Bess, Helen and Florence; and brothers, Lester and Don.
Shirley was born May 22, 1924, in Tipton, to Charles and Lena Hipple. She married Robert Shanahan on April 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 19 years as a cashier in food service.
She was a longtime
member of St. Patrick
Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
