Verliena Maxine Becker passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at her home in North Liberty at the age of 84 years.
Verliena was born May 6, 1932, in rural Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Josephine (Birka) North. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950. On Oct. 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to Norbert Becker in Pleasant Plain. They farmed in the Ainsworth community for 30 years, retiring to Kalona in 1989. Verliena moved to North Liberty in 2010.
Verliena was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and lived her life each day honoring and worshipping the Lord.
Verliena is survived by her 11 children, Bob (Gloria) Becker of Douds, Jerry Becker of Riverside, Don (Cindy) Becker of North Liberty, John (Karen) Becker of The Villages, Fla., Bonnie (James Soukup) Becker of Bothell, Wash., Ken Becker of Hills, Terry Becker of Atalissa, Mary Jo (Rob) Kinney of Coralville, Brenda (Matt) Shelman of West Burlington, Deb (Jim) Fuhr of Washington and Steve (Anita) Becker of Iowa City;
29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Gevock of Agency.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert; and a son, Tim.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington. A rosary and vigil service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Holy Trinity Parish Life Center in Richmond. The family will greet friends from 3:30 to 8 p.m. following the vigil service.
A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Iowa City Hospice.
