Judith Kay Greene died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf at the age of 53 years.
Judy was born Dec. 8, 1960, in Sigourney, Iowa, the youngest child of John M. and Vera Virginia (Bombei) Greene's eight children. She graduated from Tri-County High School in Thornburg in 1979. Judy received her B.A. degree from the University of Iowa. She was a Worcester Diocese youth minister in Worcester, Mass., from 1985 to 1987. She returned to Iowa City and the University of Iowa, where she obtained her teaching certificate. Judy taught social studies for 22 years at Alleman Catholic High School in Rock Island. She enjoyed a summer trip to China in 2004 with the National Consortium for Teaching About China. Judy was an active member of the Scott County Democrats. She had a lovely voice and loved to sing.
She is survived by her seven siblings, Carol (Dennis) Wolff of Oelwein, John R. Greene of Webster, Gerald (Holly) Greene of Deep River, Joan Braymen of Shawnee, Kan., Mary (Dale) Smith of Decorah, Denise (John) Conrad of Rose Hill and Roberta (Dave) Stakland of Washington, Iowa; 22 nieces and nephews; and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. The Rev. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Sigourney. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. and a time of sharing following at Powell Funeral Home, North English.
A memorial fund has been established at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for Judy's nephew, Ian Stakland.
