Anderson, Edward L.
Edward L. Anderson, 84, of Toddville, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Pastor H. Burr Bryant. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include three children, Carl (Kang) Anderson of Toddville, Judy (Ron) Bruner of Ely, and Richard (Julie) Anderson of Toddville; seven grandchildren, Anita, Tom, Leah, Beth, Chris, Nick and Molly; five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Mackenzie, Bayne, Mela and Maeve; a sister, Joyce Hauser of Overland Park, Kansas; and two brothers, Henry J. (Darlene) Anderson of Elkhart, Kansas and Cecil (Jean) Anderson of Marion; and his in-laws, Doris Jean Anderson of Marion; Marjorie Andrews of Toddville, Catherine Dytrt, Kenneth (Shirley) Andrews, both of Alburnett, Mike Andrews of Toddville and Helen Andrews of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Ruth) Anderson and Raymond Anderson; three sisters, Mary (Bill) Cejka, Ruby (George) Pillard, and Pearl (Wally) Brown; his in-laws, Gerald Hauser, Marvin Andrews, Bruce (Clara) Andrews, Donald Andrews and Joe Dytrt.
Edward was born July 24, 1925, the son of Henry C. and Bessie May (Kershner) Anderson in Cass Center, Iowa. He attended school in Central City and Springville. Edward served with the U.S. Army Company B. 145th Engineer Battalion from 1943-1946 during World War II. He survived the Normandy Beach landing and served throughout Europe. On Nov. 28, 1947, Edward married Helen Andrews in Marion. She died June 29, 2009. Edward attended the University of Iowa. In 1967, he started working for Linkbelt Speeder in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1984. He also owned and operated Eddie Anderson Insulation. He retired from the construction business in 1999 at age 74.
Edward was a member of Toddville American Legion and UAW #299.
He enjoyed fishing, restoring cars, going to swap meets and horse auctions and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
