CATHERINE KLUG
Coggon
Catherine Ann Klug, 64, of Coggon, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. She kept her faith during a long struggle with cancer.
"Matthew 11:28: Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest."
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with a luncheon to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Family Center.
Catherine was born Dec. 26, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to C. Ray and Joan (Neislie) Kratzer. Catherine had two sisters, Pam Fleshman and Terri Ellis, as well as nephews, Dan and Todd Massure.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Tom Klug; and three daughters, Elisabeth (Klug) Kissling, married to Josh, with son Liam; Anna (Klug) Behning, married to Brian, with children Abe and Ava; and Rachel Klug, the beloved youngest.
Catherine attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids. She received a bachelor's degree in sociology and an elementary teaching certificate. She was in Phi Beta Kappa, on the dean's list, and graduated cum laude. She began teaching third grade in North Linn, Coggon and Walker, followed by Iowa Christian School, Central City, then onto Cedar Valley Christian School in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. Catherine changed careers in 1999, going to Kirkwood for her health information management certificate RHIT. She was a member of IHIMA and AHIMA.
Catherine lived a life mirrored by the Mother Teresa quote, "Do small things with great love." She had a strong faith, making her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens her ministry by donating them to numerous people and non-profit shelters. She enjoyed traveling and historic re-enactments starting with the Buffalo Forks Settlers, White Oak Society, Grand Portage and the Coalition of Historical Trekkers. She cherished her time with friends, hosting tea parties, Bible studies and sitting in her gazebo with a cup of tea.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Klug Family Memorial Fund in care of Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
