Klug, Shirley A.
Shirley A. Klug, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died at home Friday, July 22, 2011. Through her strength and determination, she fought an aggressive form of cancer for almost five years. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.
Survivors include her sons, Chris (Nancy) Klug and Kevin (Cathy) Klug, all of Cedar Rapids, and Scott Klug of Iowa City; her grandchildren, Christina and Logan Klug; a sister-in-law, Marie Klug of Cedarburg, Wis.; and niece and nephew, David Klug and Diane Klug-Peltier. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; and her brother-in-law, Gerald.
Shirley was born July 25, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Harry and Lorraine Keipper. She married Kenneth Klug on June 22, 1951, in Fort Jackson, S.C. Shirley was a longtime volunteer and employee of the United Way of East Central Iowa, retiring in 2006. Shirley devoted her life to her family, friends and to helping others, including animals.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
