Johnie Frank Stepanek, 85, of Marion, passed away peacefully at his home at Terrance Glenn Village on Tuesday, Sept. 8 2020, of natural causes in the care of Terrace Glenn and Mercy Hospice.
He was born Dec. 22, 1934, in Perry Township, near Traer, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in France in the 349th Medical Dispensary. He attended Mount Mercy College and earned several management certificates and achievements. He married Barbra Dunn at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Oct. 10, 1959, in Cedar Rapids. Johnie farmed until moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he worked for 42 years at Cedarapids Incorporated (Iowa Manufacturing), where retired as a supervisor. In retirement, he also drove school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community School District, where he enjoyed all the kids he safely transported. He was one of the founding members of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He served as a lector, lay distributor and CCD teacher as well as an active member for over 50 years. He also was a member of the Knight of Columbus.
Johnie is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jim) Wiberg of Milwaukee; his sons, Jack (Jacque McOllough) Stepanek Ankeny, Iowa, Joe (Erin) Stepanek, Blaine, Minn., and Jim (Peggy) Stepanek, Delhi, Iowa; grandchildren, Hailey, Lauren, Patience (Brandon) Abby, Sophie, Max, Jackson and Ellen; and great-grandchildren, Kinley, Henry, Brymlenn and Barrett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, of 49 years; his parents, Wesley and Marie Stepanek; and his siblings, Agnes Lawson, Evelyn Wiese, Chuck Stepanek and Mary Vagjrt.
A private funeral Mass for family and close friends was held at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial with military rites was held in Mount Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the spring of 2021.
Johnie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to so many.
