Thompson, Anne Eleanor Henderson

Anne Eleanor Henderson Thompson, 93, of Vinton. died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. at the Vinton Lutheran Home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Private family Interment services will be at Big Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Bible Translators, the Vinton Public Library or the charity of the donor's choice.

Eleanor was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of John Z. and Leola Ellen (Crooks) Henderson. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in dietetics. On April 4, 1942, she married Robert M. Thompson, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1995. The couple farmed together in Big Grove Township. Eleanor was a registered dietitian, working for more than 20 years at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. She was a former member of the Board of the Vinton Lutheran Home and was a 25-year member of the Lutheran Home Auxiliary.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Robert (Teri) Thompson of Des Moines, Martha (Antonio) Turrent of Mexico City, Mexico, Edwin Clay Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Thompson of Darien, Ill.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents.
