Thompson, Pearl Irene
Pearl Irene Thompson, 90, of West Union, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Waukon Good Samaritan Center, Waukon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, with the Rev. Marshall Nessa officiating. Interment will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ossian.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Burnham Wood Funeral Home, West Union, and one hour before the services Wednesday at the church.
Pearl Irene Thompson, daughter of Michel and Thelena (Kleppe) Helgerson, was born Feb. 18, 1921, in rural Clermont. Irene was united in marriage to Arthur Harold Thompson on Feb. 17, 1942, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, and was a lifelong member of the church. After Irene and Arthur were married, they farmed for many years in the West Union area. She enjoyed cooking, baking and watching her cats, but her love was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Linda) Thompson of Waterville, and Stan (Shiho) Thompson of Fairview, Okla.; one daughter, Nancy (Bob) Siders of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Troy (Julie) Thompson, Tara (Pat) Reisinger, Misty (Dean) Bennett, Cody (Tina) Hellum, Erin Siders and Hannah Thompson; and five great-grandchildren, Reese, Isaac and Drake Reisinger, Gage and Riley Bennett and Kelsey Hellum.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thompson; one son, Donald Thompson; her parents; four brothers, Melvin Helgerson, Thelmer Helgerson, Herman Helgerson and Milferd Helgerson; and one sister, Bernice Meyer.
Memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Piano Fund in memory of Irene.
