Thompson, DeLoye Emerson
DeLoye Emerson Thompson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dan Kolander. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military services. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Beula; children, DeAnn Schriner and Gary (Diane) Thompson, both of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Connie) Thompson of Westgate and Doug (Patty) Thompson of Glenwood; daughter-in-law, Brooke Thompson of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; brother, Don (Sharon) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Segriff; son, Thomas; and great-grandson, Davis Eric Thompson. DeLoye was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Norway, Iowa, to Carl and Alta Vig Thompson. He was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. DeLoye married Beula Coombs in Iowa City on June 12, 1945. He was employed at National Oats for over 45 years, retiring as foreman. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
