Prull, John E.
John E. Prull, 75, of Monticello, found lasting rest, surrounded by his family, early Saturday morning, Jan. 15, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a parish Scripture service held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. Burial: church cemetery. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate.
John was born Oct. 14, 1935, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Henry and Frances (Seery) Prull. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. National Guard in 1957 and trained until 1965. John was united in marriage to Jean Biehl on May 31, 1961, in Masonville, Iowa. Together they worked and raised eight children on their family farm near Monticello until retiring in 1998.
John was president of the Eastern Iowa Coalition for Decency, a member of Sacred Heart Prayer Group since 1987 and Knights of Columbus Council 1821, a 4-H leader for 10 years and a CEW leader for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; eight children, Janet (Mitch) Pickering of Marion, Teresa (Dan) Finley of Norway, Mary Jean (Mike) Ohlhauser of Cedar Rapids, Joanne (John) Timm of Monticello, Steve (Crissy) Prull of Alexandria, Minn., Rick (Michelle) Prull of Maquoketa, Mike (Kim) Prull of Fairfax and Karen (Dan) Bruns of Cedar Rapids; 23 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Harry (Betty) Prull of Monticello; a sister, June Wagner of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Sophie Prull of Center Junction; a brother-in-law, Mike Biehl of San Francisco, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Joe and Sylvia Biehl; siblings, Winifred (Aloysius) Heims, Donald (Mary) Prull, Richard Prull, Jimmy Joe Prull and Helen Prull; a sister-in-law, MaryJo (Biehl) Mullin; and a granddaughter, Danielle Finley.
John desired charitable donations to Camp Courageous of Iowa or the Monticello Ambulance Fund.
