Mayo, Ruben
Ruben Mayo, 32, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, in the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by Pastor Rustin Krapfl. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
Survivors include his parents, Tommie Mayo (Betty) of Cedar Rapids, and Vickie Mayo of Hiawatha; his sisters, Laura Flores of Moline, Ill., Stephanie Jones of Chandler, Ariz., and Carmen Pickering of Cedar Rapids; stepsister, Kim Mendoza of Anamosa; stepbrothers, Rick Mendoza (Trisha) of Tampa, Fla., and John Mendoza (Shelly) of Cedar Rapids; his aunts, Karen Spencer of Cedar Rapids, and Sandra Drees (Frank) of Hiawatha; his uncles, Gary Tallman (Cheri) of Cedar Rapids, Michael Tallman of Marion, and Mark Reynolds (Denise) of Cedar Rapids; and an aunt, Jeri King (John) of Hiawatha.
His nieces and nephews are Daniel, Terry, Gabrielle, Selena, Dalton and David. His cousins are Ben, Adam, April, Tia, Brandon, Kassi, Nicole, Savannah, Emilee, Dylan, Alex, Kamryn, Mya, Loralye, Caleb, Kylie, Peyton and Lyllian, additional family, Pete, Christina, Anthony and Orlando Darley. His special friends are Nicky, Jesse, Hudge, Chad, Brent, Jared, Scott and Mark, plus many more.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Delores Tallman and Lorraine Keeton; and grandfathers, Thomas Mayo and Bryan Keeton.
Ruben was born August 27, 1977, in Iowa City, the son of Tommie and Vickie Mayo. He worked construction for several years. He loved fishing, cooking, being outdoors and was an avid poker player. He was a huge sports fan, his favorite being Kobe Bryant. He loved the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Ruben was a friend to all he met and will be dearly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
