Schirm, Brian C.
Brian C. Schirm, 44, of Sioux City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, April 3, 2011. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, by Pastor David Mosher. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Brian was born Nov. 28, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, to Charles and Carol (Melhus) Schirm. He grew up in the Cedar Rapids area, graduated from Norway High School in 1985, and later attended the University of Iowa. After college he returned to the Cedar Rapids area. Brian was a business conference call trainer for MCI and a resident manager at his apartment complex. In 2002, he moved to Sioux City, becoming owner of the Paxton Tap in Morningside, a job he enjoyed until the time of his passing.
He was member of the Abu Bekr Shrine. Some of his favorite pastimes were target practicing, sports cars, collecting memorabilia, electronics of all nature, and sharing camaraderie with friends. He supported the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include his mother, Carol Schirm of Cedar Rapids; maternal grandmother, Leona Melhus of Newhall; aunts and uncles, Kathleen (Bill) Stickney of North Liberty, Kenneth (Sheila) Melhus of Papillion, Neb., Delores (Butch) Pickering of Newhall and Harold (Rosemary) Schirm of Pennylsvania; paternal grandmother, Zenolia Schirm of Newhall; fiancee, Debbie Hair of Sioux City; many cousins and very special friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, Charles Irvin Schirm; brother, Jeffery Alan Schirm; grandfathers, Irvin Schirm and Clarence Melhus; stepgrandmother, Fidelis Abodeely; and stepuncle, Phillip Abodeely.
