Shirley Ann Ottaway, 77, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018.
Shirley was born March 8, 1940, in Calmar, Iowa, to James and Myrtle Yirkovsky. Shirley Yirkovsky married Jerry Ottaway on Feb. 7, 1959 at St. Joseph Church in Marion, where they were members for over 59 years.
Shirley is survived by her children, Sharene Ottaway, Jim (Julie) Ottaway, Joyce (Jerry) Helmick, Steve (Janie) Ottaway, Julie (Jeff) Ottaway and Jeri (Dave) Ottaway; her grandchildren, Natasha (Chad) Kacere, Christie (Brandon) Frohling, Heather Ottaway, Matt (Lisette) Ottaway, Tanya (Jake) Vozenilek, Jordan, (Chris) Hanson, Zachary Ottaway, Thomas Helmick, Joseph Ottaway, Travis Helmick, Steven Ottaway, Jacob Ottaway and Toni Helmick; her great-grandchildren, Troy Ottaway, Bryden and Lenyx Frohling, Hadley and Kyah Ottaway, Kellan and Asher Kacere, Josh and Haley Hartsoe, Raelyn Ottaway, Claire Hanson, Mia Ottaway and two great-grandchildren due in April; her in-laws, Rebecca Yirkovsky and Janet Lanham, Ron (LaWanna) Ottaway, Charlotte (Robert) Trypkosh, Joyce (Mike) Clark, Carol (Phil) Allen, Mary (Don) Bees, Bette (Don) Holub, Linda (Mark) Holman and Ray Jr. (Chris) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ottaway; granddaughter, Sara Ottaway; her great-grandson, Spencer Ottaway; her parents; her brothers, James Yirkovsky, Ken York, Darrell Yirkovsky, Ronald Yirkovsky and Marvin Yirkovsky; her sisters, Mariam Hauser, Patricia Bridge and Edna Hunter; and brother-in-law, Loren Ottaway.
Shirley's joys and interests were spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to the casinos and watching the Hawkeyes, Cubs and Vikings!
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. The Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the State Room at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. There will also be a visitation at the church after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the love, support and prayers they have received in the past year. Additionally, the care provided by Mercy Hospice.
