AMES — Former Iowa State basketball standout Georges Niang took another step toward his goal of an NBA career.
The Indiana Pacers announced Monday they signed Niang to a contract, although terms of the deal were not disclosed. Indiana drafted Niang in the second round, No. 50 overall, last month.
Within the last few weeks, Niang played in five games with the Pacers in the NBA's summer league in Orlando, averaging 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Niang averaged 20.5 points and 6.2 rebounds as a senior with the Cyclones. He was the Karl Malone Award winner and first men's basketball two-time All-American in ISU history.
Niang left Iowa State as with the most wins of any player in school history and is the second all-time leading scorer for the Cyclones.
