Corkery, Constance 'Connie'
Constance “Connie” Corkery, 52, of Marion, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with Father David Beckman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Connie graduated from Grinnell High School and then went to Mount Mercy University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. Connie went to work for Grinnell General Hospital in 1975 and later became a correctional services officer for the state of Iowa.
Connie had many hobbies she loved to do, like playing softball, fishing with her grandfather, football, taking pictures and traveling to name a few. Her dog Charlie gave her a lot of happiness.
A special thanks to Luke and April Lubben and their family for the care they gave Connie - they are her angels, and to all the people who said prayers and went out of their way to visit her.
Survivors include a brother, Michael (Deb) Corkery; nieces and nephews, Colleen, Gage and Jesse Dixson, Elizabeth (Roger) Bolinger, Zane, Ethan and Leo Corkery, Terrance and Christina DeBruin, Autumn, Tanner and Brycen Erickson; and aunts and uncles, Connie, Nancy and Donald Johnson and Priscilla (Joe) Gill.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harry and Anna Corkery; parents, Lowell and Margaret Corkery; cousins, Lori, Ann, Colleen, Baby John Corkery, Tom and Colleen Cain; and aunts and uncles, Margaret and Tom Cain, Eugene Corkery.
