Gosnell, A. Margaret 'Peggy' Nelson
A. Margaret “Peggy” Nelson Gosnell, formerly of Ottumwa, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dave King and the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Chapel, Ottumwa, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Montclair, N.J., to Esther and Andrew Nelson. She was married to James H. Gosnell on May 21, 1938, in Harrisburg, Neb., In 1956, she moved to Ottumwa, Iowa. She worked in the dietary department at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa for 30 years, moving to Cedar Rapids in 1998 after the death of her husband. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids and while living in Ottumwa, was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Simmons (Norman) of Port Deposit, Md.; two sons, James (Karen) of Blairstown and Bill (Pat) of Marion; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, A. William Nelson (Renee) of Boulder, Colo., and Andrew Nelson (Virginia) of Dennison; and one sister, Lorraine Hendrickson (Carl) of Greeley, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
