Arlene Alice Phillips, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016, among her family and friends at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, from an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1,
at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Blane "Pappy" Phillips Sr. of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Blane Phillips Jr. (Evelyn) of Cedar Rapids, Wayne Phillips of Van Horne and Robert (Cindy) Phillips of Rush City, Minn.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Louis, Edward, Kenny and Harold Kennedy; and great-grandchild, Lynsey Niemeier.
Arlene was born April 24, 1930, at her home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Irwin and Mary (Lewis) Kennedy. She married Pappy on Dec. 22, 1946, in Fort Dodge. Arlene was employed by the Cedar Rapids school district as a cook. She later attended Kirkwood Community College becoming a dietitician, later working at Heritage Nursing Home. Arlene loved playing cards and dice games, but most of all loved her children and grandchildren.
