C.R. Titans trade for reigning IFL MVP
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Titans obtained quarterback Willie Copeland in a Monday trade with the Colorado Ice for offensive lineman Walter Stuller.
Copeland played six games for the Titans during their 2012 expansion season, and has spent the last three seasons with the Colorado Ice. Last season, he was named the Indoor Football League Most Valuable Player after throwing for 2,380 yards and 56 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound lefty from Valdosta State led the Ice to the Intense Conference championship game in each of the past two seasons. Copeland threw for 333 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions in two games this season, but has not appeared in a game since March 15 due to a foot injury.
He was placed on Colorado's 'Refused to Report” list on April 6, which means he is not eligible to appear in a game until May 9 when the Titans host Wichita Falls at the U.S. Cellular Center.
The Titans (4-2) travel to Bemidji this Friday.
