IOWA CITY - The West boys' basketball team defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie, 84-56, last Friday night in a Class 4A substate semifinal, moving the Trojans to 22-0 and one step closer to the state tournament.
After taking a few minutes to settle in, West took the lead a few minutes into the first quarter and never let it up. Hot shooting from senior David Dileo sparked the Trojans early. After that West looked inside to juniors Tanner Lohaus and Wali Parks for points. Parks led all scorers with 25 points, including a rare 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half.
This win was Trojans' 53rd straight home victory since 2010. This is an impressive feat, but possibly more impressive is that West is looking to repeat as state champions for the fourth consecutive year.
The Trojans play Cedar Rapids Washington tonight in a substate final at 6:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
