Hawks glide past Washington

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Cedar Rapids Prairie surged in the third quarter to grab the lead, then made 7 of 10 free throws in the final 1:21 to hold of Cedar Rapids Washington, 47-41, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys' basketball game Friday night at Washington High School.
Trailing 10-5 after a quarter, the Hawks (4-7 overall, 2-5 MVC) got within 16-15 by halftime, then shot to a 30-21 advantage by the end of the third quarter.
The Hawks' margin bulged to 35-22 on Austin Fisher's three-point play with 5:49 left before Washington (2-7, 2-5) made a hard push.
Jake Kramer's 3-pointer got the Warriors within 40-37 with 1:30 left, then Jared Printy's bucket made it 43-41 with 36 seconds to go.
But Cal Clark stemmed the rally with a pair of free throws, then Bryce Meeker made two more.
Clark, a sophomore, led the Hawks with nine points. Coen Brown added eight.
Jake Kramer scored a game-high 10 points for Washington. Printy and Maurice Arrington tallied nine apiece.
