Max L. Rusk, 99, of Belle Plaine, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at UnityPoint Hospice (St. Luke's) in Cedar Rapids.
Max was born Dec. 6, 1916, at the home of Rex and Katie Rusk in Belle Plaine. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1934. He eloped and was married to his wonderful wife, Wava Rusk, in Lancaster, Mo., on Oct. 6, 1942. This truly lucky Irish couple were joined in marriage for more than 70 years.
Max was a switchman on the Chicago and North Western Railroad for 42 years. He loved to play and watch baseball. He also loved to go fishing, and spend quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Terry Rusk; his daughter, Bonnie (Rusk) Johnson; his granddaughter, Jill (Jeff) Eschman of Houston, Texas; his grandson, Jerrett (Daria) Johnson of Bowling Green, Ky.; and his two great-grand-daughters, Lauren and Jenna Johnson of
Bowling Green, Ky.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, his two brothers and his three
sisters.
He chose to be cremated, and his Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine on Jan. 22 at 10 a.m., with a memorial gathering from 9 to 10 a.m.
All of the great memories that Max created over the years will continue to be cherished by those who loved him.
Instead of flowers, the Rusk family requests contributions be given to the family memorial fund.
