Former Hawkeye basketball player Anthony Tucker suspended at Winona State

Mar. 1, 2011 2:27 pm
Anthony Tucker had a turbulent two years as a University of Iowa basketball player, and that pattern continues.
Tucker, a junior guard at NCAA Division II Winona State, has been suspended indefintely from the Warriors' team as it nears the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament this week.
Tucker was arrested Saturday night in Winona for disorderly conduct at 1:28 a.m. on Monday after a confrontation with Winona State security and Winona Police outside a Winona State residence hall.

At Iowa, Tucker was suspended twice for alcohol-related incidents and was academically ineligible the second semester of his freshman season.
He averaged 11.9 points in the games he did play his sophomore season. After he was released from his scholarship last February, he eventually transferred to Winona State in his home state, and was eligible to play right away in the 2010-2011 season.
Winona State is a D-II power, having won the national-championship in 2006 and 2008. But this season has been rocky, as this Daily News story about the Warriors' regular-season finale suggests.
“Somebody has to step up and get the job done. I think that is one of the things we are lacking right now is that person, a go-to guy. We don't have that,” said (Coach Mike) Leaf, whose team fell to 17-9, 13-9 in the NSIC.
Tucker's statistics look pretty good. He has a team-high 15.9 points per game, and is second on the Warriors in assists and steals. He had played in all 26 games, with 22 starts, and is second on the squad in minutes played.
