Jones, Helen
Helen Jones, 80, of Iowa City, died peacefully Monday, August 1, 2011, at Mercy Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 6, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where the family will greet friends after noon. Following burial at Memory Gardens, friends are welcome to join the family from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room to celebrate Helen's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.
Helen was born March 14, 1931, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Ila Clark Dunlap. She had attended the University of Iowa and Coe College. On Dece. 13, 1953, she married Everette “EK” Jones Jr.
Helen and her husband managed the Iowa City Flying Service at the Iowa City airport for many years. She was a member of Questers Antique Association and PEO. She owned Rose Alley Antiques.
Helen is survived by her five children, Everette “EK” (Carol) Jones III of Osceola, Carrie Jones of Iowa City, Eliot (Julie) Jones of Solon, and Martin (Pam) Jones and Gerald Jones, both of Iowa City; her brother Donald (Karen) Dunlap of Independence; and seven grandchildren, Everette IV, Robert, Elizabeth, Adam, Sara, Megan, Victoria and Christian.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
