Helen Louise Shepard, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Noelridge Christian Church, officiated by the Rev. Stew Royce. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Fontana Cemetery in Hazleton.
Helen was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Hazleton, Iowa, to Arvid and Mildred (Worman) Magnuson. She was united in marriage to Howard A. Shepard on Sept. 9, 1945, in Hazleton.
Helen worked as a secretary at both Iowa National and Millhiser Smith for many years. She was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed attending sporting events with her husband, and playing in various card clubs. She was an animal lover, who was especially fond of cats. She also loved to garden and enjoyed tending to her flower beds.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Shepherd of Oelwein; and three nieces, Dixie Shepherd of Cedar Rapids, Pam Mayo of Monticello and Pat Joebgen of Perry.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Howard, in 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Helen's name may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
