Helen Yossi, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Surviving is her husband, John Jr.; three children, Dr. Dennis (Debra) Yossi, Cedar Rapids, Denise (Tracy) Meeks, Marion, and Darwin (Lynnette), Dallas Center; six grandchildren, Megan, Chris, Austin (Leah), Jeremy, Brock and Ashton; and a great-granddaughter, Kinley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Winnifred; a brother, David Brockmeier; and two sisters, Florence Yeater and Sandra Nabb.
Helen Irene Brockmeier was born March 3, 1927, at Greeley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy and Orlena Brockmeyer Brockmeier. Helen graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1945 and continued her education at Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the Button Factory in Monticello for a year before she was married.
Helen married John Yossi Jr. on May 24, 1952, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She worked at Ertl Toys in Dyersville and Polo Plastics in Monticello. Helen and John did wood crafts for 16 years before retiring in 2004. He made the doll furniture, farm buildings and barns and Helen painted them. They sold their items at craft shows all over northeast Iowa. Helen enjoyed painting and making ceramics as well. She and John loved to go camping and traveled all over the United States doing just that.
