Helen Sophia Meder, 98, died at the Guttenberg Care Center on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015. She was born June 18, 1916, to Ben and Helena Lake in Guttenberg, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church, Guttenberg, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Helen is survived by her three children and spouses, Mary Helen (Dave) Grace, Joseph (Peg) Meder and James Meder; and eight grandchildren, Chris (Sheila) Meder, Greg (Sarah) Meder, LeeAnn (Ben) Haehnel, Dr. Lindsey Meder (Dr. Chris) Cowherd and Zach (Megan Jackson) Meder, Joe Grace (Mahalaxmi Majumdar), Mike Grace and Dr. Elizabeth Grace. She leaves 11 great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Dr. Don E. Meder; and five siblings.
Memorials may be left to Helen's favorite charities, St. Mary's School and St. Mary's Church.
