Helen Meier Breitbach, 91, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Jones Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where
friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Surviving are three children, Larry (Nancy) Meier, Karen (Ron) Steiner and Lonnie (Nancy Bader) Meier; four grandchildren, Lonnie Eilers, Matt (Rachel) Eilers, Pete (Holly) Meier and Andi (John) Rorick; five great-grandchildren, Libby and Leah Rorick, Izak, Jaxon and Keegan Eilers; and her sister, Dorothy Stutt, her brother, Allen Husmann, and a sister-in-law, Mary Husmann, all of Monticello.
Helen Margaret Husmann was born Dec. 27, 1923, near Amber, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Anna Otten Hussmann. Helen graduated from Monticello Community Schools. She then worked at John McDonald Hospital. Helen married Vernon "Pete" Meier on Oct. 25, 1944, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Monticello. Helen went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. She was employed there for 21 years. Peter preceded her in death in 1972. Helen worked as a waitress for Dan Read at the Office Bar for several years.
In 1976, she married Shorty Breitbach at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Helen loved to play euchre any time anywhere and take her daily rides through Hard Scabble.
