Cecilia Navratil, 98, lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, died at Hallmar-Mercy Medical Center on June 2, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, at All Saints Catholic Church. The family will
greet friends and relatives before the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery. A luncheon will be at All Saints after the burial. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Cecilia Navratil was born June 2, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Lottie (Moudry) Taylor. Following her graduation from St. Wenceslaus High School, Cecilia attended Mount Mercy College. She was united in marriage to Jerome Navratil on Aug. 17, 1939. She was employed at Russell's Guide before beginning a career at Stamats Communications that spanned 35 years, employed first as an assistant accountant and then chief accountant. She retired in 1983.
Cecilia was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church and supporter of Catholic education throughout her life. She played the piano and in high school, played basketball. Throughout her life she followed sports teams in the area and was a supporter of the arts and theater in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed going to movies and reading. She loved Cedar Rapids and closely followed local, national and international news.
She was a generous person and a meticulous record keeper about herself, her family and her home. She enjoyed scrapbooking and after retiring began researching family genealogy.
Cecilia is survived by one daughter, Karen Wires, granddaughter, Sarah Wires, and son-in-law, John Wires, all from Annandale, Va.; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Taylor of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Navratil, in 1985; and her brother, Richard "Dick" Taylor.
Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Hospice of Mercy or the Macular Degeneration Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Hallmar, Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy for its tender, loving care of Cecilia this past year.
