Samuel was born May 12, 1998, in Iowa City, the beloved son of Mike and Jackie Taeger Kuntz. Samuel was a fifth grader at Truman Elementary in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed his friends, classmates and teachers. Samuel loved listening to all kinds of music, working his switch toys, riding his bike at school, going for walks, riding the bus and being read stories to. Samuel was a truly amazing boy who brought us so much joy. He was a fighter from day one and overcame many health issues that would have brought down anyone else. His beautiful smile would light up a room and his fight and perseverance for life gained him the respect of all who knew him. He had a spirit about him, of total innocence, yet wisdom, that made you feel you were almost on holy ground in his presence. He changed the life of many, for the better, in his short time here on Earth. He will be forever in our hearts and minds and missed beyond measure.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of Samuel's special nurses, who took such tender care of him at St Luke's Hospital. To Dr. Scott Nau, who went way above and beyond for Samuel, treated him with the dignity he deserved and saved his life with his expertise on many occasions. Also to the ARC, who provided us with the most compassionate caregivers to give us respite, and all of our friends, family, and church members who have supported us with prayer throughout his life. All of these people have become like family to us and words cannot express our gratitude.
Samuel is survived by his loving parents, and his brother and hero, Jonah Kuntz, all of Solon; maternal grandparents Dean and Joann Taeger of Sperry, Jerry and Doris Kuntz of Mount Vernon as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Samuel is preceded in death by his maternal grandma, Connie Taeger.
