Jekerle, Bernice Marie
Bernice Marie Jekerle, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at All Saints Catholic Church, Queen of All Saints Chapel, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Michael Klappholz. Visitation: one hour before the service at the church. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Bernice will be deeply missed by her family, which includes her daughters, Shirley Ann Jekerle of Cedar Rapids and Carolyn Marie Knirr and husband Eric of Bettendorf; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Michelle Knirr, who have a special place in their heart for their “Babi.”
Bernice was born July 10, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Kofron) Tichy. She married the love of her life, Frank John Jekerle, on June 25, 1949, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. As a young woman she worked as a stenographer for the Cedar Rapids courthouse and then for many years at Armstrong's Department Store in gift wrap.
She was a charter member of All Saints Catholic Church, and was a member of St. Anne's Circle. Her life reflected her strong faith in God, devotion to Our Blessed Mother, and the rosary. Bernice cherished family times together, especially with her grandchildren, her great pride and joy.
Bernice enjoyed collecting recipes, baking, sewing, music, family vacations, fall bazaars, dining out, and being with family and friends.
Bernice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Frank; her parents, Jacob and Anna; and sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Earl Drake.
Memorial donations may be given to All Saints Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for all of the prayers and support given by so many.
