Williams, Floyd
Floyd Williams, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, in Mercy Medical Center. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gospel Tabernacle Church by Pastor Joe Pledge. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include wife, Marie Williams; his children; Adam F. (Stephanie) Pledge, Dorothy J. Pledge, Charlotte A. Pledge, all of Cedar Rapids, Floyd Pirtle and Frederick Pirtle, both of South Fulton, Tenn., Patrick O'Neil of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kenny Robinson, Gary Robinson, Tammy Robinson, Jerry Robinson, Billy Robinson, Frank Robinson and George Robinson, all of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Darrel Williams and Donald Williams, both of Cedar Rapids, Willie B. Williams and Dennia Williams, Alphea Motley, Beulah Brown and Gwendora Williams, all of South Fulton, Tenn.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Boyd Williams; a sister, Leatha Maddox; a brother, Ronald Williams; and a stepdaughter, Laura Miller.
Floyd was born Oct. 10, 1941, in South Fulton, Tenn., the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Carr Williams. He married Marie Pledge on May 16, 1981, in Cedar Rapids. Floyd was a handy man. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, dancing, and sharing his childhood stories. He was a great man and was loved by all. Floyd also loved to dress up and spend time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a nick name for all of them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
