Dunlap, Craig M.
Craig M. Dunlap, 63, of Central City, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, t Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. The family also will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Iowa, directly following the service. There will be a luncheon immediately following the burial at the Hopkinton Community Center.
Craig was born Nov. 26, 1948, the son of Clyde Albert Dunlap Sr. and Mary Maude (Cornell). He was a graduate of Maquoketa Valley High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Craig married Karen DeMeulenaere on June 25, 1982, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked several odd jobs before finding his career with Ralston Foods, where he was employed as a journeyman electrician and journeyman sheet metal worker for 39 years.
Craig was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was involved in the Catholic Lay Ministry Program. He took his work very seriously, and enjoyed what he did. Craig was a member of the Central City Main Street Program and co-owner of Dunlap International Inc. for 22 years. He loved to travel and also enjoyed bowling and camping, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; children, Melinda Billock of Mundelein, Ill., Kathryn (Shawn) Walsh of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Eric Newman) Dunlap of Decatur, Ill., and Neill (Hannah VanWyk) Dunlap of Central City; grandchildren, Kyle, Brady and Luella; and siblings, Sandra, Vivian, Ruth Anne, Curtis, Anthony, Wendy, Wanda, and Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ivany; and four brothers, Kenneth “Bud,” Clyde Jr., Richard and Terry.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at City State Bank, 59 Fourth St. North, Central City, IA 52214.
