DeMeyer, Marie Elizabeth

Marie Elizabeth DeMeyer, 95, passed away Wednesday, April 11. 2012, at Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab from complications of age. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Deacon Joe Behounek presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Victor.

Marie was born Oct. 21, 1916, to Henry and Mary VanOtegham in Iowa County, Iowa. She married Fred DeMeyer on June 12, 1939. The couple farmed several years until he died in January 1964.

Survivors are her children: daughters, Faye (Richard) Brezina and Rose (Steve) Reinhart of Cedar Rapids; sons, Jack (Sandy) DeMeyer of Belle Plaine and Gary (Elizabeth) DeMeyer of Freeport, Ill.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Wauters and Henrietta Malloy.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, John; and three sisters, Clara Anderson, Hilda Van de Voorde and Madalene Wauters.

Marie was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
