Robert J. Vosdingh, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died June 5, 2017.
Bob was born Dec. 12, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Mildred A. (Navin) Vosdingh. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1961, where he met his future bride. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years as an air traffic controller. Bob married Marilyn Mumm on Dec. 14, 1962.
Bob was a long-time member of the Cedar Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He had many different career opportunities and retired from GSTC in Walford. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid reader.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Jodie (Michael) Kemp, Rhonda Vosdingh (Brad Astor) and Chris (Jim) Upah; son, Daniel Vosdingh; grandchildren, Sarah Kemp, Bethany Astor, Noah Upah, and Devin and Taylor Vosdingh; sisters, Mary Alida Taylor and Mildred Ann Heinze; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lillian Ralston Woods; and a niece, Linda Sulzner.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 7, followed by military rites by the Marine Corps League at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, 2121 Bowling St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Luncheon following immediately at The Avacentre. Inurnment will be held at Hala Cemetery near Swisher on Thursday.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Marine Corps League, earmarked for the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, Cedar Valley Detachment, Marine Corps League, c/o Dave Schiel, 6110 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Mercy Hospice for their loving care of Bob.
